The monograph presents the history of the artistic path of the drama actor Arnold Tovornik, the recipient of the Borštnik Ring. Tovornik did not choose the acting profession because of his acting experience from the student stages, some humorous performances in smaller companies and undeniable acting talent but due to a web of random circumstances. Nevertheless, he became a great actor, repertoire holder and long-time champion of the Maribor stage. If it is true that there are no big and small roles, only big and small actors, Arnold Tovornik certainly confirms this idea in all his stage performances. And if the virtue is that the actor always gives his best no matter the role, Arnold Tovornik is the best role model. His acting career is presented in the book by seasons, with brief presentations of his fellow actors. He has also appeared in films, radio and television. Among the citizens of Maribor and beyond, he remained unforgettable as the character of the clever folk joker Štef Purgaj. After the presentation of the book, we will go together to the Pobrežje cemetery, to the grave of Arnold Tovornik, to pay our respects to him. Tovornik’s bust, which was stolen years ago, was re-casted only a few weeks ago and will be unveiled after the book presentation. The author of the bust is the academic sculptor Vlasta Zorko, and the new casting was made in the Borut Kamšek Foundry.
